From a cool hotel in Paris to an international chain of quirky hotels, Mama Shelter is always worth visiting.
We wouldn’t usually be excited about a new addition to a hotel chain, but Mama Shelter is one of the rare examples of a chain done right.
The first one opened in Paris in 2008 and since then they have opened new hotels all over Europe and the world. From Marseille, Bordeaux and Lille to London, Istanbul and Los Angeles, you can recognise a Mama Shelter as soon as you enter the lobby. The newest addition to the family will be opening in Rome this summer, and we can’t wait to see what Mama Shelter has in store for their first hotel in Italy.
Having stayed in a lot of Mama Shelter hotels around the world, I can say that the warmth and fun that you feel as soon as you open their doors are impossible to find elsewhere, especially at the price point offered by the French chain.
Rome is the ultimate magical city. Its history, miraculously and entirely preserved, seduces us at each corner of the street. And at the same time, the Romans have manners and a certain elegance which give it all its charm and its modernity. Since the beginning of Mama’s adventure, we dreamed of settling here and this will become a reality in the near future.

I have admired the Hollywood sign from the rooftop of Mama Shelter Los Angeles, ate and drank the night away in Prague, had the most fantastic brunch in London and even found the Dj for my wedding at the original Mama Shelter in Paris during a dinner-turned party.
As you can imagine, I feel quite the connection to the brand at this point and I was waiting for them to finally open in Italy – how thrilling it is to see them landing in Rome.
The new hotel will open its doors in July 2021 in the neighbourhood of Prati, minutes away from the Vatican. Mama Rome will boast 217 rooms, a jaw-dropping terrace overlooking St. Paul’s dome and, more importantly, it will be the first hotel of the chain to have a spa completed with a pool, hammam, sauna and a fitness centre.
