This is why Croatia should be at the top of your travel list this summer

Who doesn’t dream of crystal clear waters, delicious food, sunshine and incredible hotels?

After the year we have had, we all need a good holiday.

With the restriction easing and the temperatures rising, we have been dreaming of a relaxing day at the beach, sipping watermelon juice. With the vaccination protocols starting to deliver some positive results, we will soon be able to take the sought after plane to freedom (aka, a sandy beach).

Like many countries in Europe, Croatia’s economy relies heavily on tourism, which is why the country’s government has taken the matter into their own hands with the introduction of Croatia’s Stay Safe in Croatia campaign. The government’s strategy includes priority vaccinations for tourism workers, making Croatia one of the safest destinations on the continent.

But why should you visit Croatia this summer?

First of all, the incredible weather. During the summer months, you can expect daily averages of 30°C and at least 14 hours of sunshine a day – the perfect temperature to relax and enjoy the glistening waters of the Adriatic coast.

But Croatia is more than blue waters and pristine beaches. Days spent tanning on the beach and boat trips to the neighbouring Elafiti Islands sound amazing, but there is a whole world of exciting things to discover in this European gem.

If you consider yourself a foodie, a road trip to Istria is what you should embark on. Hectares of fascinating vineyards, mouth-watering food and beautiful villages to discover – a weekend wouldn’t be enough to take it all in. Like neighbouring Italy, Croatia produces litres of fantastic wine, spectacular local dishes and kilos of truffle to enjoy. If you spent the last year ordering takeaways, you will appreciate this change of scenery.

For the more urban travellers, Dubrovnik is the place to go. Lord Byron famously called it the Pearl of the Adriatic, and we couldn’t describe it better. A place full of history, overlooking the sparkling sea – the city centre’s Baroque architecture is perfectly preserved and has owned the Croatian capital the title of UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Wherever you like to do during a holiday, Croatia has it all.
