Cittaslow is a movement that originated in Italy in 1999 as a response to the fast-paced, high-stress lifestyle of modern society. The word is derived from the Italian word “città” (city) and “slow”. The movement aims to promote a more balanced and sustainable way of living.
The Cittaslow manifesto is based on the principles of “good living”, which include preserving the local culture and traditions, promoting healthy and sustainable food, encouraging green spaces and pedestrian-friendly streets, and fostering a sense of community and conviviality.
The Cittaslow community has since spread to other countries and now includes more than 200 cities and towns across the world, all committed to promoting a slower, more mindful way of life.
