The best cocktails to make at home this autumn, from fabulous hotels

We can’t go to a fancy hotel for a drink on Friday night, but what if we brought their elaborate cocktails to you?

Everyone’s social life took a hit this year thanks to the Coronavirus pandemic and, unfortunately, this autumn is no different. Curfews and lockdowns loom over us, but that doesn’t mean the fun needs to stop.

If life was back to normal, we would suggest you fly to sunny Puglia, in Italy, to try the latest creation from Paragon 700, or make your way to London to try one of DUKES LONDON’s spectacular cocktails, but since we can’t do any of those things comfortably, we gathered for you the best cocktails from some fabulous hotels, that you can make at home and feel like life is back to normal, even for a few hours.

What you will need:

  • 1oz 1/4 Vodka
  • 1/4 Oz coffee liqueur
  • 3/4 Oz almond syrup
  • One long espresso

The Linenopolis by The Grand Central Hotel, Belfast

What you will need:

  • 25ml Of Dark Rum 
  • 20ml Aperol Liqueur
  • 15ml Dry Vermouth
  • 5ml Coffee Liqueur 
  • 2 Dashes of Bitters
  • Garnished with Orange Zest & Coffee Bean.

What will you need:

  • 15ml of Sacred DUKES Exclusive Amber Vermouth
  • 25ml Potocki Vodka
  • 70 ml No.3 Gin
  • A few drops of Angostura bitters
  • Zest of organic orange, squeezing the orange peel to extract the fragrant oils

Vecchio Minatore by Paragon 700 Boutique Hotel & Spa, Ostuni

What will you need:

  • 1 bar spoon honey syrup
  • 3 dash of angostura bitters and chocolate bitters
  • 1oz bourbon whiskey
  • 1oz Scotch whisky
  • Top with fennel foam

The Cigar Smoker by The Churchill Bar & Terrace

What you will need:

  • 50 ml Roasted Green Pepper infused Cenote Blanco Tequila
  • 30 ml Noilly Prat
  • 30 ml  Tomato shrub
  • 20 ml Grapefruit Oleo-saccharum
  • 30 ml salted Cacao Husk Brew

Method:

  • Fill a mixing glass halfway with cubed ice (use either the base of a cocktail shaker or a pint glass)
  • Add the cocktail ingredients in the mixing glass
  • Hold a bar spoon with your thumb and first two fingers at the top of the twisted part of the shaft. Dunk the bar spoon into the glass and twirl the shaft back and forth and up and down for 20 to 30 seconds.
  • Strain the drink into a well-chilled glass appropriate for the cocktail.

The Writer by The Churchill Bar & Terrace.

What will you need:

  • 45 ml Chase Rhubarb & Apple Gin
  • 30 ml William Fox Custard Mix (15 ml William Fox Custard syrup mixed with 15 ml of pasteurised yolk)
  • 20 ml Lemon juice
  • 2 spoon of Rhubarb and Ginger jam
  • 20 ml egg white 
  • Garnish: dry rhubarb powder 
  • Glassware: coupette glass

Method:

  • Chill the coupette glass with ice and set aside 
  • Add all the ingredients in the shaker, including the egg white
  • Dry Shake the shaker vigorously for about 15 seconds before adding ice and shaking again
  • Remove the ice and double strain the drink inside the glass
